ALL 250 students hyped up and moved their bodies in the main hall of Multimedia University in the anti smoking concert organised by Society Of Per-forming Arts And Creativity and Flex Club of Malacca campus.

“Say No to Smoking” campaign was a four-day event that started out with food bazaar and carnival by the students themselves and an exhibition of information on health and smoking by the Health Ministry.

The highlight of the campaign was the anti smoking concert, which students were given a chance to showcase their talents and win prizes; and guest performance by local celebrity Too Phat.

Too Phat performed their hot songs KL, Dancing, Just A Lil' Bit, Feel So Good and 6 MC that sent the crowd screaming at the top of their lungs and moving their body together with the music.

A total of 15 contestants, nine singers and five groups of dancers competed for the prize in two different categories.

Prizes included were a recording contract by Twenty-Four-Seven En-tertainment and a RM300 voucher for the champion of singing category.

The champion of the dancing category would receive RM500 voucher. All winners would get to stay a night at Seremban's Royal Adelphi Hotel's deluxe room for free.

Anne Chew Yii Huei, 20, was the favourite among the crowds.

With a last minute audition and no rehearsal prior the concert, she earned herself a standing ovation from the audience with Siti Nurha-liza's Seindah Biasa.

“This is my third time performing in MMU but I haven't won anything so far.

“But then, winning is not everything,” said the engineering student whose parents came all the way from Kuala Lumpur and more than 40 friends turned up at the concert to give her moral support.

Chew grabbed the first runner up position as she lost to Zarith Helina Mohamed Tiar, 21 who sang Kiss Me of Sixpence None The Richer, together with her two guitarists, Ahmed Sya Shaarani and Saiful Adli Abu Umar.

“I didn't expect to win because the competition was very stiff,” said Zarith Helina after the prize giving ceremony.

When asked about her plan for the recording contract, she said studies would have the higher priority, but she planned to do a solo or an acoustic performance with her two guitarists for the album if she had the chance.

The Joel dancing group that performed a dance titled Anonymous, with their robotic a la Michael Jack-son movements totally impressed the judges and audience.

Exit Connection, a sub group of the previous year champion Unbreak-able, grabbed the first runner up placing.

“It is a little disappointing since our teachers were last year's champion, but we have tried our best,” said team leader Lai Ming Yang.

Lai led a team of six members, Cheong Yew Kiaz, Goh Jun Hui, Siow Loh Han and female dancers, Yap Hwee Leng and Tham Hui Yee for daily practices a month before the actual competition.
